The War on Poverty

The term “war on poverty” usually refers to a set of initiatives proposed by the Lyndon B. Johnson’s administration, passed by Congress, and implemented by several agencies. In his 1964 State of the Union address President Lyndon B. Johnson announced, “Our aim is not only to relieve the symptoms of poverty, but to cure it and, above all, to prevent it.”

As we sit in the second decade of the 21st Century, poverty is still affects all Americans in some relevance whether directly or indirectly. Specifically, urban and rural America is affected by the auxiliary affects of poverty.

A sustainable way forward is to know the high level view of the economy in your neighborhood, the goals of your neighborhood and the issues being proposed in your neighborhood.

Make the effort to know who makes up the city council in your city and the agenda items proposed by visiting the local government websites.
